Student Initiatives

Ing. students in action
Although a course of study is very time-consuming and demands a lot from students, some of them set themselves additional challenges their free time. A special example of this is the motorsport team born at the Faculty of Engineering Science, which embarks on a fresh season with new students year after year. It is much more than just a hobby, because on the Team, students get to know all the gruelling phases of project management. This "learning by doing” imparts valuable experience and skills even during the course of their studies, which could make the difference in a future career. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, high cornering speeds, and breath-taking events - this is the reward for a long design and construction phase, as well as extensive marketing planning and cost calculation.
Formula Student
Elefant Racing is the Formula Student Electric Team of the University of Bayreuth. The aim of the international "Formula Student" design competition is to design and build a single-seater formula racing car as a prototype, and then to line up in races in Hockenheim and other competitions. In addition to the design, speed, durability, and tight handling of the car, it is just as important to hold your own against other international teams in the disciplines of cost accounting and business plans. As part of this interdisciplinary project, students from a wide range of disciplines have the opportunity to put what they have learned in lectures into practice. Even during the course of their studies, they furthermore practise soft skills such as the ability to work in a team, perform project management, and cooperate with industrial partners.
